Another anti-government protest of employees in Armenia
Vanadzor Chemprom employees went on protest in front of the governor’s office of Lori region to demand their salaries.

The head of shift of the ammonium synthesis workshop Hrach Martirosyan told Lragir.am, AzVision.az reports. He said that they have not received an answer from the governor’s office because the governor is on leave.

Around 700 employees of Chemprom have not received their salaries since December 2014 and now they demand that the government resolve their problem. Earlier the governor of Lori had stated that after resolving the problem of salaries of Nairit employees the government will attend to the issue of salaries of Chemprom. The employees of Chemprom say if the governor’s office does not resolve their problems, they will go to the government.

The factory is not operating, employees are laid off, the laid off employees have not received a separation pay. The total monthly amount of salaries is about 35 million drams. The monthly salaries eight times plus the separation payments is a huge amount, said the head of shift Hrach Martirosyan.

Member of Parliament Edmon Marukyan told Lragir.am he will raise the issue of Chemprom in the next meeting of parliament. “Now people demand their salaries for 9 months. Chemprom’s future, I think, is vague, its products are not competitive, the possibility of investments is limited. It is necessary to be frank with people and say that it will not be operated. And if it is going to be operated, it is necessary to make steps in that direction and pay people’s salaries,” Marukyan said.

Note that Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan had told the employees of Chemprom last year that the ex-minister of energy and natural resources Armen Movsisyan would be dealing with their salary issue because he is well-aware of the problem. Besides, Hovik Abrahamyan had said that Armen Martirosyan has vested interest in the factory. The employees of the factory doubt that one of the factory’s shareholders is Armen Movsisyan.
