Armenia detains nearly 2,500 opposition activists

About 2,500 Armenian opposition activists are detained in police stations, the coordinator of the Resistance movement, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ishkhan Saghatelyan said on his Facebook page, AzVision.az reports.

"So far, more than 2,100 members of the resistance movement have been taken to various police stations. However, we know that the detention of all of them has not been documented by the police. The number of detainees is about 2,500," he noted.

48 citizens have been arrested since April 25. Courts are now considering arrest warrants: "It is a fact that there are about 5 political prisoners in the Tower of Democracy (including those detained before the movement)."

He claimed that the accusations of the arrested and detained citizens were baseless or illegal:

"At the same time, the entire Internet and the press are full of video materials that confirm the police's illegalities, atrocities, and inhumane treatment. However, no police officer has yet been prosecuted for the crime."
