White House to nominate first woman as central bank head
US President Barack Obama plans to nominate Janet Yellen as the first woman to head the Federal Reserve, according to media reports late Tuesday that cited White House officials, dpa reported.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Obama is expected to make the announcement Wednesday afternoon at 1900 GMT.

Yellen, 67 years old, has served as vice chairwoman of the central bank and would follow Ben Bernanke at the head of the bank when his term expires January 31.
