German ex-chancellor Helmut Schmidt hospitalized because of vascular problems
German ex-chancellor Helmut Schmidt has been sent to the resuscitation and intensive care department of a hospital in Hamburg, said local media reports cited by Reuters.
The reason for his hospitalization is vascular problems in his leg. According to media sources the situation is serious, although there is no danger to the politician’s life.

On Wednesday doctors will decide whether Schmidt requires surgery. Helmut Schmidt, 96, headed the Social Democratic Party of Germany and was West German chancellor from 1974-1982.
