Everest thriller opens Venice Film Festival
The first red carpet of the Venice Film Festival was filled with the stars of the mountainous thriller Everest, along with members of the event
Opening night highlight was the world premiere of Baltasar Kormakur’s snowy disaster movie starring the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal.

Italy’s president Sergio Mattarella was among the notables attending the opening ceremony.

Current issues mixed with the glamour as jury president, Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron called for better treatment of all migrants:

“I am a Mexican living in Europe and I have always felt welcome. I would like that today, and in the future, that same welcome would be extended to all migrants. Thank you.”

The message was well received as was the screening of ‘Everest’ although it’s not one of the 21 films in competition.

‘Everest’ tells the story of a real disaster that killed five people on the world’s highest mountain in 1996.
