Russia Preparing for New Sanctions Disregarding Donbass Developments
Whatever happens in Donbass, the West will try to hit Moscow with new sanctions, according to Russia`s deputy foreign minister.
Russia needs to brace for a new wave of Western sanctions regardless of the situation in eastern Ukraine, Russian Deputy Foreign Ministry Sergei Ryabkov said Wednesday.

“We believe that regardless of what’s happening in Donbass, we should expect a further clampdown in sanctions in several areas,” Ryabkov said.

Last week, the United States implemented new sanctions against Russia that included limitations on Russian legal entities, including against the country’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport.

“In the sphere of international financial discussion, our US and EU colleagues will apply further force in order to fill all the cracks. We understand this and we need to learn to work in these conditions,” Ryabkov added.

Russia`s relations with the West deteriorated in 2014 over the crisis in eastern Ukraine. The European Union, the United States and their allies accused Moscow of participating in Ukraine`s internal conflict and imposed several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions.

Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations, expressing readiness to resume dialogue with Western partners, but on terms of mutual respect and cooperation.
