Azerbaijani community of Karabakh issues statement on upcoming illegal elections
According to the statement, legitimate elections in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region could only be held after Armenian troops withdraw from the occupied lands, the people forced out of their homes return to their native lands, and peace is established between the Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of the region.
It’s not the first time the Armenians have organized “elections” in occupied Azerbaijani lands, ignoring international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and resolutions by international organizations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said the statement.
With its illegal actions, Armenia damages OSCE Minsk Group-mediated peace negotiations for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, international efforts to establish peace and cooperation in the region, and dialogue opportunities of communities, said the statement.
According to the statement, it’s not secret to the world that the unrecognized illegal regime in the occupied Azerbaijani lands has been created by Armenia on the basis of an ethnic cleansing of the Azerbaijani population. Therefore, international organizations and world countries have never recognized such elections Armenia holds in Nagorno-Karabakh to cover up its aggressive policy.
The Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh is convinced that Armenia’s destructive actions will be condemned more strongly by the international community, and effective measures will be taken to stop the aggressive policy pursued by this country, said the statement.
The statement also said that for the settlement of the conflict, more than the 75,000 Azerbaijanis who were forced to flee the Nagorno-Karabakh region must be returned to their native lands.
