Azerbaijan receives about one million tourists in past nine months
Azerbaijan welcomed about one million tourists over the past nine months, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nazim Samadov said at a business forum on tourism in Baku on Sept.9.
Foreign tourists mainly come to Azerbaijan from Russia, Turkey, Georgia and Iran, the deputy minister said.

The economic challenges in neighboring countries negatively affect the number of tourists coming to the country, Samadov said, adding this year the number of tourists from Russia has reduced by about 87,000.

The deputy minister went on to add that some countries with high tourism have already begun to provide tax benefits for entrepreneurs. “Perhaps, the time has come for us to apply it. The prices of air tickets has gone down, lower prices for air tickets also affected travel packages. At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the rules of accreditation that give tourism companies a right to issue visas. 65 tourism companies have been authorized to issue visas”.

Samadov noted that proposals prepared based on international experience were submitted to the foreign ministry and the entrepreneurs, taking into account the suggestions and recommendations of the ministry, lowered prices.

There is a need to carry out reforms in this sphere, the deputy minister said, adding relevant proposals were prepared by the ministry of culture and tourism.
