Tension on Armenia-Azerbaijan border provoked by Yerevan - Russian political scientist

The ongoing tension on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border was caused by Yerevan’s provocations, Sergei Markov, the director of the Russian Institute of Political Studies and a political scientist, told APA.

Markov said he thinks Armenia will again lose any possible large-scale war with Azerbaijan.

“Armenia has got the EU monitoring mission onside.  Armenia’s defense minister visited the NATO Headquarters in Brussels to talk about what is happening between Armenia and Azerbaijan. At such a moment, such a military provocation is very beneficial for Armenia. In this case, Yerevan to a greater extent draws the European Union, France and NATO to its side,” the Russian political scientist said.

Markov also called the Armenian defense minister’s visit to the NATO headquarters ‘a big mistake of Yerevan’. “Russia will not lend a helping hand to the Armenian defense minister, who is visiting the NATO headquarters,” he added.
