The incident took place after a group of PKK terrorists carried out an armed attack on policemen, who were drinking soup at a restaurant in central Yenisehir neighborhood, the sources added.
The wounded were taken to the Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital and the Gazi Yasargil Education and Research Hospital.
The civilian 22-year-old waiter Seyhmus Sanir could not be saved despite best efforts.
An operation to nab the terrorists involved in the incident is currently underway in the area.
In remarks to the Anadolu Agency Editor`s Desk on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister Cevdet Yilmaz said: "When someone comes and carries out terrorist acts in the center of Diyarbakir, the target is actually the whole of Diyarbakir."
Turkey has seen a surge in terrorist attacks since the PKK resumed its armed campaign at the end of July. Since July 7, more than 100 Turkish security personnel have been martyred in attacks focused on Turkey’s southeastern provinces.
