“Austria commends and supports Azerbaijan`s peace initiatives,” said President of the Federal Council of the Austrian Parliament Günter Kovacs as he met with Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Austria.
Describing Azerbaijan as Europe’s reliable energy partner, the President of the Federal Council stressed the importance of reciprocal visits in terms of further development of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries. Günter Kovacs noted that the visit of the Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament to Austria is an indicator of mutual intention on development of relations between the two countries` parliaments.
Recalling the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries thirty years ago, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova stressed the importance of reciprocal visits of the both countries’ heads of state and government officials, and documents signed between the two countries in deepening of relations between Azerbaijan and Austria.
Touching upon Azerbaijan’s path of development, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova described Azerbaijan as the most developed, multicultural and tolerant country in the region.
She highlighted Azerbaijan’s restoration of its territorial integrity in 2020, the reconstruction and restoration works carried out in the liberated territories after the victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, the launch of the “Great Return” program and the process of return of internally displaced persons to their native lands.
Sahiba Gafarova further emphasized that despite being a victim of occupation, Azerbaijan makes efforts towards ensuring long-term peace and stability in the region, offering Armenia to sign the peace treaty.
