ChatGPT faced some challenges this year with the release of completely free and open-source Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot DeepSeek but it moved back to the top five last month.
Google, to no surprise, reigned supreme in April with 81.31 billion monthly users, followed by YouTube with 28.68 billion, Facebook with 11.56 billion, and Instagram 6.17 million.
Global creative agency We Are Social’s 2024 data showed that ChatGPT leaped up the list of most-visited websites last year. The AI app, ranking ninth on the list last year, climbed four positions, while Google, YouTube, and Facebook maintained their top three status.
Meanwhile, ChatGPT remained at the top of other AI tools category with 4.7 billion monthly visitors in April, according to AITools data. The website evaluates all AI websites and not only generative ones, which means websites like Canva, which is a graphic design application, are included.
Canva, a browser-based Photoshop alternative with free and paid offerings, ranked second with 887 million monthly visits, far behind ChatGPT.
Google Translate, Google’s AI-powered translation service, came in third with 595 million monthly visitors.
Chinese AI tool DeepSeek, whose surprising release and cost-effective performance swayed AI tool users to opt for the alternative, ranked fourth, followed by Character.AI with 226 million visitors, JanitorAI with 200 million, and Perplexity with 133 million monthly visits.
Google’s Gemini only managed to get to number eight with 118 million monthly visits, having lost over 9% of its traffic in January to DeepSeek. Remove.bg ranked ninth with 112 million and Claude made it to tenth place with 105 million monthly visits.
