He made the remarks in a message of congratulation to the Azerbaijani army personnel on June 26 - the Armed Forces Day, Caliber.Az reports.
In his message posted on the Defence Ministry website on June 25, Hasanov also noted that the Azerbaijani state plays an important role in establishing and protecting lasting and sustainable peace and stability in the region.
"The creation of a unified command in the Azerbaijani army, whose 105th anniversary we are celebrating, the formation of the armed forces as a regular army, the promotion of military construction issues as a priority are the result of bold steps taken by the national leader of our people Heydar Aliyev in this direction.
Thanks to Azerbaijani President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, who successfully continued the political course of the great leader in the field of army construction, our armed forces have now been brought to the level of the advanced armies of the world," the message of congratulations reads.
Minister Zakir Hasanov stressed that the families of martyrs, soldiers who lost their health during the fighting, war veterans are always in the spotlight of the state.
"We express our gratitude to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva for the attention and care shown in the direction of improving their social and living conditions, solving their problems.
I congratulate the families of the martyrs and our soldiers who lost their health during the fighting on June 26 – the Armed Forces Day, and I convey my best wishes to them," he said.
Azerbaijan celebrates the 105th anniversary of the establishment of its Armed Forces on June 26.
On June 26, 1918, the first regular military unit - separate Azerbaijani corps - was created under the decision of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic’s Council of Ministers. The government set the task to create a 25,000-strong army.
On August 1 of the same year, Azerbaijan’s Military Ministry was founded, with Khosrov bey Sultanov appointed as the first minister.
Then, on December 25, Gen Samad bay Mahmandarov was appointed as the Minister of War and Lt Gen Aliaga Shikhlinsky as the Deputy Minister.
The first success in the military sphere was achieved on September 15. The National Army, together with the Caucasian Islamic Army under the command of Nuru Pasha, liberated Baku and the surrounding counties from the Armenian-Bolshevik occupation. The first military parade in Azerbaijan was held in Baku in 1919.
June 26 was declared the Armed Forces Day by the decree of National Leader Heydar Aliyev on May 22, 1998.
