"Snap presidential elections will be held in Uzbekistan tomorrow. The country has prepared seriously for this election. We have studied and applied the advanced methods of conducting free, democratic elections," Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan said at a press conference for foreign journalists accredited to observe the early elections held in the country.
The chairperson said that the CEC has started preparations since May 10 and approved the plan of measures. 10,784 polling stations have been set up in the country. The total number of members of those polling stations is 108,399 people. 47.9% of them are men, 52.1% are women. Besides, young people under the age of 40 constitute 51%.
"Saylov-2023" software has been developed to monitor the elections. The names of 19,593,838 people were specified and included in the single list of voters. Each citizen has the opportunity to check his/her name on the list.
At least two cameras were installed in each of the polling stations in 208 districts and cities. They will broadcast live stream from elections. The live stream can be watched both on the CEC website and central television.
797 foreign observers have been registered to monitor the elections. The number of local observers is 53 677. 1400 local and foreign media outlets will cover the process. 125 of them are foreign media organizations.
People were sent voting reminders via text message.
The CEC has registered 58 lawyers for 4 candidates, who are running for president. Each candidate was allocated 1400 minutes on TV channels and one page on central newspapers for presidential propaganda campaign.
Within the campaign, 691,314 various means of promotional materials (posters, booklets, etc.) of the candidates were distributed. 966 billboards and 1317 monitors were installed across the country. The same opportunities were created for each candidate to conduct propaganda campaigns.
Special opportunities were created for people with physical disabilities. The campaigns of candidates were available in sign language and braille.
Voting will continue from 8 am to 8 pm on July 9.
