Azerbaijani, Turkish FMs discuss completion of BTK project
Elmar Mammadyarov: “Feridun Sinirlioglu is one of the diplomats working on the UN resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh”

Azerbaijan and Turkey are implementing major projects, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said Wednesday at a press conference held jointly with Turkish counterpart Feridun Sinirlioglu in Baku.

The minister said he discussed with his counterpart the completion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project.

“Azerbaijan and Georgia have done all that is needed. We are confident that by the end of this year or the beginning of next year Turkey too will have done its part. This is a strategic project and is not only meant for the South Caucasus but also Central Asia. We have discussed these issues with Kazakhstan too. Turkmenistan and China are very much interested in this project as well. The railway ties the nations closely to one another,” Mammadyarov said.

Mammadyarov noted that they have also talked over international issues.

“We touched on the problem of Syrian migrants too because it’s an important issue for us. Azerbaijan also has faced a similar situation in the near past. Up to 2 million refugees have settled in Turkey. This problem should be resolved soon so that those people could go back to their native lands. Turkey supports Azerbaijan with regard to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Feridun Sinirlioglu is one of those diplomats working on the UN Security Council’s resolutions,” the FM stressed.
