On October 12, Pour-Hemmati arrived at the Bilasuvar border checkpoint in Ardabil province and surrendered to Azerbaijani border guards after raising a white flag, AzVision.az reports citing Turan news agency.
On October 9, Pour-Hemmati was released on bail. However, immediately after his release, Iran’s security forces declared him wanted to re-arrest him.
An Iranian court sentenced him to 3 years in prison on charges of organizing anti-government protests. According to the verdict, after his release he cannot leave Iran for another two years. During his detention, he continued to be subjected to severe torture.
