Iran, Azerbaijan holding talks to connect railway network
Iran and Azerbaijan are holding talks to connect railway network, governor of the Gilan, Mohammad Ali Najafi said.
Her noted that the railway network will be connected between Azerbaijani and Iranian Astara cities: “At the coordination meeting held in Baku in August with the participation of Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, co-chairman of the Iran-Azerbaijan joint economic commission Mahmoud Vaezi, Azerbaijan offered to stretch the railway line from Azerbaijan’s Astara to Iran’s Astara. This railway line will connect Iran with Europe, Russia and Caucasian countries with Persian Gulf. Length of Astara-Astara railway will be 7 km, of which 2 km will be constructed in Iran, 5 km in Azerbaijan”.

The governor of the Gilan also noted that a decision has been passed on construction of large cargo terminal in Iran’s Astara.
