The State Tourism Agency organized a two-day media tour for journalists around the country to Shahdag Mountain Resort to celebrate the opening of winter tourism season in Azerbaijan and introduce them to the opportunities the field has to offer.
The goal of the event was to promote winter tourism in Azerbaijan, introduce various tourism products, boost interest in the field and inform the wider public of the preparations, innovations, and new products at the Shahdag Mountain Resort .
Journalists were shown a video presentation of all the activities at the Resort in 2023, with a focus on the infrastructure and reconstruction works throughout the territories.
Rustam Najafov, Chairman of the Shahdag Mountain Resort, spoke of the special 1,800-meter new slope that has been launched to hold various international ski competitions.There are now 488 snowmaking machines instead of the previous 449 for continuous snow provision at the ski slopes.
He added that the Shahdag Mountain Resort has become a member to the Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Resorts, comprising resorts from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, to expand their access to global tourism markets and boost touristic allure. Najafov noted that this cooperation will play its positive part in developing winter tourism in Azerbaijan.
He also delivered some excellent news. Shahdag will host its first ever ski mountaineering tournament in March 2024, an international series competition by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation.
Shahdag Resort operates to achieve positive dynamics in the number of local and foreign visitors, boost customer satisfaction, intensify domestic and foreign promotion, and be widely recognized as a tourist resort that operates throughout the year, not only in winter.
He then held a Q&A session, where he gave extensive answers to all the questions by journalists. The media representatives had the most fun experiencing the winter entertainment facilities, such as skiing, riding on cable cars and various winter attractions.
The media tour also included about 90 tourism representatives and bloggers from Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Serbia, and several Middle Eastern countries and 12 members of foreign partner resorts.
67,821 guests stayed overnight at the hotels in Shahdag Mountain Resort and another 158,506 guests visited the resort from January to 15 December 2023.
