 Azerbaijan continues construction of Barda-Aghdam railway

The Barda-Aghdam railway line has already been built almost to the center of Aghdam city, the Azerbaijan Railways spokesperson, Sanuber Nazarova, said, AzVision.az reports. 

The year 2023 was also significant in terms of the construction of railway infrastructure in Karabakh.

"Starting from 2020, we continue to work on the reconstruction of railway infrastructure in the territories liberated from occupation. The Barda-Agdam project is one of the important projects and we have almost prepared and built the railway line to the centre of Aghdam city. The construction of Barda, Tazakand and Kocharli stations is currently being finalised. In general, the construction of the railway line with a length of 47.1 kilometres is being completed," Nazarova said.

She stressed that 90 per cent of the work has already been completed on the project: "Design work has also been completed on the preparation of the transport hub, which includes a single railway and bus station complex. This year the construction of this complex will be started. Alongside, work is underway to design the Yevlakh-Barda railway line, which is the Garabagh branch of the Baku-Boyuk-Kesik road. Our goal is to gradually reconstruct the railway infrastructure throughout the country, especially in the territories liberated from occupation, to improve the infrastructure.”

According to the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated November 24, 2020, the construction of the Barda-Agdam railway started in early December 2020.
