During the same period, the number of teachers in the education institutions reduced by about 1000, constituting 38,483, 84,2% of them being women. In the academic year 2014/2015, the number of teachers already fell to 37,560.
According to Narine Hovhannisayn, the Head of General Education Department of Armenia’s Education Ministry, reduction in the number of teachers is conditioned by several factors.
“The number of students has decreased. Besides, we’re trying to do our best to ensure teachers’ full time employment, i.e. 22 hours,” Hovhannisyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.
She also noted that the schools have no staff-related problems and only those in far villages may lack certain specialists – a problem, which according to her, the Ministry is trying to solve.
