Turkic countries should start developing single transport strategy -Head of Turkmen People

The Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, while addressing a meeting of the Council of Elders of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), has called for creating a unified transport strategy of the Turkic countries.

Berdimuhamedov stressed that the transport sphere has a priority place in the cooperation of the Turkic states.

"We should start developing a unified transport strategy. Consolidation of efforts will allow us to reach agreements with our international partners and major investors in this sphere. In this regard, I would like to stress the importance of Turkmenistan's strategy to restore the Great Silk Road. Turkic states play an important role in this direction," the official newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan quoted Berdimuhamedov's speech as saying.

The head of the People's Council noted that many centuries ago the Turkic Belt had a significant positive impact on the progress of mankind, geographically linking the development of Eastern and Western cultures, becoming a place of wide exchange of knowledge and achievements in various fields.

"In my opinion, we should now talk about rethinking and adapting to this great historical mission of the Turkic peoples. It is necessary to create a new structure of cooperation in the Eurasian space. Having defined its main directions in politics, economy, trade, culture and world outlook, it is necessary to make this work sustainable and consistent," Berdimuhamedov said.

The elders agreed with him. In the final communiqué of the Council meeting, they stressed the importance of the strategy of reviving the Great Silk Road with the key role of the Turkic Belt, which had a tremendous positive impact on the development of mankind. In the document, the parties also noted the need to coordinate the efforts of the Turkic states within the framework of universal and regional organisations and reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the role of the OTS in addressing global and regional issues.
