The quake hit 28 miles west from the Chilean city of Illapel, Coquimbo Region.
There were no immediate reports about the damage or casualties.
A powerful 8.3-magnitude quake hit Chile’s central Coquimbo Region, located about 500 kilometres (310 miles) from the capital Santiago, at around 22:54 GMT on September 16.
The earth tremors and a consequent tsunami claimed lives of 13 people, while about 1,000 Chilean citizens were evacuated.
