EU to challenge Germany over pilot licensing after Germanwings
The European Commission is poised to launch a legal challenge against Germany`s oversight of air safety, in particular its system for renewing pilots` licenses, a person familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
The Commission will warn Germany that its license renewal practices are not in line with EU law, the person said, adding the issue was that they promote secrecy for pilots wanting to keep their licenses over safety, the person said.

Medical secrecy and pilot supervision came under scrutiny earlier this year when a young co-pilot barricaded himself inside the cockpit and crashed a Germanwings jetliner into the Alps, killing all 150 people on board.

In addition, the Commission will take issue with Germany`s oversight of the airworthiness of planes and related operations.
