A mass grave was found in 1993 although two of the children were found in a different spot in 2007.
The remains were investigated and verified but some members of the Russian Orthodox Church are unconvinced as to the authenticity of the bones of the two separated bodies, that of the Tsar’s son Alexei and his sister Maria.
The Royal couple and three of their daughters were formally reburied at St Petersburg’s Cathedral in July 1998 on the 80 anniversary of the murder and later canonised.
But with the two remaining bodies due to be entombed next month, Russia’s religious authorities want to make certain using modern DNA science and newly found documentation that whole family has finally been laid to rest.
