KazTransOil unveils volume of oil transported via Baku in 1H2024

Kazakhstan's KazTransOil (the national operator of the main oil pipeline) transported over 700,000 tons of oil in the direction of Baku from January through June 2024, a source at KazTransOil told reporters.

"From January through June 2024, 701,200 tons of Kazakh oil were transported through the port of Aktau in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, which is 328,100 tons more than in the first half of 2023," the source said.

As the company added, in June 2024 alone, KazTransOil shipped 123,700 tons of Kazakh oil at the port of Aktau in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

In addition, the company previously told Trend that projections for transportation volumes would not change by the end of 2024.

"Over the entire year 2024, it is planned to transport up to 1.5 million tons of oil through the port of Aktau in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. KazTransOil supplies oil in accordance with the oil transportation schedule. This schedule is approved by the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan based on applications from shippers," the source added.

To note, 3.376 million tons of oil were loaded into tankers at the port of Aktau utilizing KazTransOil facilities by the end of 2023. Of this total, 1.057 million tons were bound for the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route.

Meanwhile, in 2022, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev issued an order to enhance the amount of oil transported through the Trans-Caspian corridor. The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and KazMunayGas, the country's oil and gas company, signed an agreement allowing for the transportation of up to 1.5 million tons of oil annually from the Tengiz field in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline in compliance with this directive.

In addition, during the visit of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Azerbaijan on March 11–12, KazMunayGas and SOCAR signed an agreement to increase the volume of oil transported via the BTC to 2.2 million tons per year.
