COP29 volunteers spearhead eco-initiative in Baku

In a display of environmental stewardship and to raise environmental awareness among the local population, the COP29 Volunteers organized an impactful ecological action in the central areas of Baku. Held on the 30th of July, the campaign, titled ‘Seeds for Green Future’, saw the active participation of 50 dedicated volunteers who engaged local residents in the drive towards ecological sustainability and a greener lifestyle.

The event commenced at the Zira Gulchuluk complex where the volunteers immersed themselves in the facility’s operations, gaining valuable insights into various plant varieties and sustainable gardening practices. Thereafter, the volunteers fanned out across the city, including the Seaside Park, Old City, and the COP29 Information Centre in the picturesque Baku Boulevard, to distribute pre-prepared seed packets and promote sustainable gardening habits among the residents.

During the campaign, volunteers engaged in educational dialogues and surveys with the public, inquiring about the steps taken and initiatives underway to fulfil our ecological obligations. They also provided practical guidance to residents on these topics.

This eco-action is part of a broader series of socio-environmental projects undertaken by the COP29 Volunteers to ensure public engagement in climate issues, emphasize the significance of collective efforts in environmental protection, and draw the community’s attention towards existing challenges in this vital area, all while championing the cause of sustainable living.
