IAEA Chief Meets Iranian Foreign Minister to Discuss Nuclear Roadmap
Mohammad Javad Zarif met with Yukio Amano to discuss the two sides
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Yukio Amano to discuss the two sides’ roadmap of past and present activities, local media reported Saturday.

The atomic weapons watchdog is the body tasked by the landmark Iran nuclear deal reached in July to monitor and verify Tehran’s compliance with the agreement.

The reported meeting between Zarif and the IAEA director general in New York was held “in a positive atmosphere,” Amano said as quoted by the Tasnim news agency. Zarif is due to meet colleagues at this week`s UN General Assembly.

Zarif, who negotiated the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with six world powers, said he welcomed measures taken by Amano to implement the roadmap Iran had agreed with the IAEA.

The JCPOA commits Iran to complete the activities under the “Roadmap for Clarification of Past and Present Outstanding Issues” by October 15. Amano is then required to provide the IAEA’s final assessment by December 15.

The nuclear agency chief met Zarif, as well as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the head of Iran’s nuclear energy organization in a visit to Iran last Sunday.
