Dam collapse in war-torn Sudan kills at least 60

At least 60 people have died after a dam collapsed in eastern Sudan due to torrential rains, local media reported the latest tragedy in the North African country, which has been in famine mode due to a civil war that has lasted more than a year, AzVision.az reports citing Bloomberg.

Many others are missing after the Arbaat Dam, the site of a reservoir that is a major source of fresh water for the nearby Red Sea city of Port Sudan, collapsed, the Altaghyeer news website reported. The floods have destroyed homes, swept away vehicles, and forced civilians to flee to higher ground, the company said, citing witnesses.
