"According to operational data, 1.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 400,000 tons of condensate were produced from the Absheron field in January-August 2024," the ministry noted.
In 2023, JOCAP produced 800 million cubic meters of natural gas and 300,000 tons of condensate from the Absheron field. Thus, in total, 1.9 billion cubic meters of gas and 700,000 tons of condensate have been produced from the field since the beginning of operation. In 2024, gas production at this field within the first phase is expected to reach a peak level of 1.5 billion cubic meters, with condensate production expected to be 523,000 tons.
TotalEnergies and SOCAR announced the start of production within the first phase of the Absheron field development on July 10, 2023. Production is currently underway within the first stage of production from the Absheron field. The gas is intended for the domestic market of Azerbaijan.
The Absheron field was discovered by Azerbaijani geologists in the 1960s. The field’s reserves are reported to be 350 billion cubic meters. It is the second largest gas field in the Caspian Sea after the Shah Deniz field.
