Azercosmos participated at the 5th Space Economy Leaders Meeting, held from September 11-13 as part of the G20 meeting hosted by Brazil this year, AzVision.az reports.

According to Azercosmos, the summit is a global event dedicated to the development of the space economy, encompassing its commercial, scientific, and political aspects. Its goal is to bring together leaders from governments, space agencies, and the private sector to discuss the growth and expansion of the space economy.

Under the theme "Space Economy and Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities," the summit addressed the increasing global role of the space economy, the allocation of funds to tackle environmental issues, and the use of scientific and technological advancements in space to achieve sustainable development goals.

Dunay Badirkhanov, Vice-Chairman of Azercosmos, had a speech at the Heads of Space Agencies Session during the Summit. In his speech, he provided information about the development of the space sector in Azerbaijan and highlighted the benefits of the International Astronautical Congress held in Baku for both the local and international space ecosystems. He also emphasized the role of space technologies in addressing climate change, which is a key focus for Azercosmos, and the importance of the program presented by Azerbaijan for Small Island Developing States, members of Commonwealth. At the end of his speech, he invited representatives of the space sector to attend the COP29 conference, which will be held in Baku in November.

It is worth noting that, in addition to the G20 countries, representatives from Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Portugal, Venezuela, Italy, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Brazil, as well as heads of European space agencies, the World Bank, the International Astronautical Federation, and the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs attended the Summit.
