New project launched in run-up to COP29 in Baku

The COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company, in partnership with the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTANDART), has commenced the implementation of a collaborative initiative on sustainable catering. The primary objective of the project is to ensure that public catering facilities adhere to both international and national standards for environmental sustainability, AzVision.az reports.

The project emphasizes reducing operational costs, promoting the efficient use of energy and water resources, enhancing household waste management, and ultimately contributing to environmental balance and protection. By implementing these standards, the initiative seeks to create a positive impact on both the economy and the environment in Azerbaijan.

In alignment with the project’s goals, AZSTANDART will assess the environmental sustainability of public catering facilities in Baku at no cost. The evaluation will focus on several key criteria, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management.

As part of the project, public catering facilities that meet the established standards during the evaluation will be awarded special certification marks. Placed at the entrance these marks will serve as a guarantee of the facility’s environmental sustainability. The certified restaurants will also be reflected on the map of Baku available on the COP29 official website.

At the end of the assessment process, each participating facility will receive a report containing recommendations to improve its environmental sustainability and aligh with international best practices. These reports will act as guidelines for enhancing future operations in accordance with eco-friendly standards.
