COP29 president: We still need to deal with the severe impacts of climate change around the globe

“Even if we succeed in limiting global warming to 1.5 °C, we still need to deal with the severe impacts of climate change around the globe,” said Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President-Designate and Azerbaijan`s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, as he addressed the Climate and Development Ministerial meeting within the framework of Pre-COP 29, AzVision.az reports.

“Earlier this year as we attended the Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga, where we discussed the scale of the challenges that Small Island Developing States face.

According to the data of the World Meteorological Organization, in Sub-Saharan Africa, the cost of adaptation is estimated to be up to $50 billion per year over this decade.

However, there are still clear gaps in adaptation financing and implementation,” the minister underlined.
