Azerbaijani FM discuss Karabakh conflict with his German counterpart
Within the framework of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on 27 September, 2015.

Armenia’s main aim is to harm, through provocative acts, the process of negotiation on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and to keep the current status quo, which is based on occupation and aggression, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, AzVision.az reports.

During the meeting, held as part of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly, Mammadyarov said Armenia intensively violates the ceasefire and by taking provocative actions, tries to escalate the tension on the contact line and along the border with Azerbaijan. He noted the importance of the participation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs` activity on peace settlement process. Noting the necessity to put an end to the occupation and aggression, Mammadyarov said the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan should be secured within Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized borders.

Next year Germany will be chair country of OSCE. Noting the more expectations from OSCE, German foreign minister said the issues like modernization of the organization will be on the agenda.

E.Mammadyarov highlighted the importance for modernization of OSCE, its bodies, including the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR): the applied election methodology should be changed or reviewed thoroughly.

Touching on the biased and groundless statement adopted by the European Parliament on Azerbaijan, the minister said that some forces in the European Parliament are trying to inflict damage to the relations between Azerbaijan and the EU.

During the meeting, the parties also shared opinions on the Syrian crisis and its consequences, as well as migration and other issues.
