The active participation of Azerbaijan in the Summit of Sustainable Development Goals held on the sidelines of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly and the achievements in the realization of the Millennium Development Goals were especially underlined and was stressed that the successful political, economic and social development model of Azerbaijan is an interesting example for Afghanistan.
Minister Mammadyarov informed about the large-scale transport and energy projects implemented in the region by the initiative of Azerbaijan and noted that all these projects throughout the region contribute to the regional cooperation and sustainable development goals set by the United Nations and fundamentally change the transport and energy landscape of region.
The FM noted that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project will be operate soon and this transport infrastructure will serve to the increasing of cargo turnover, trade-economic relations and human contacts and in the future perspectives Afghanistan could also take advantage of this road through regional transport hub.
Salahuddin Rabbani underlined that the launching ceremony of gas pipeline passing Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) is scheduled at the end of this year and informed that the construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railroad is continuing. He also emphasized about the importance of transport infrastructures in terms of sustainable regional development.
FM Elmar Mammadyarov stressed the importance of convening of a conference to discuss the border control, security, constructions and other aspects of these mutually complementary regional transport hub.
