  Azerbaijani Ombudsman Office, ICRC hold seminar in Baku

On December 20, a seminar titled "Activities on the Application of International Humanitarian Law: Positive Practices and Challenges" was co-organized by the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The seminar was attended by representatives from the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the General Prosecutor's Office, international experts, faculty members from Baku State University, and employees of the Ombudsman Office.

Aydin Safikhanli, head of the Ombudsman Office, emphasized the strong cooperation between the Ombudsman Institution and the ICRC. He underscored the significance of resolving Azerbaijan's landmine problem, addressing the fate of missing persons, and facilitating their return to families as essential principles of international humanitarian law.

Dragana Kojic, head of the ICRC Delegation in Azerbaijan, stressed the importance of tackling challenges faced by international humanitarian law in armed conflicts and raising awareness about its implementation. She pointed out that addressing these challenges requires political will and serious efforts from states.
