Azerbaijan to attend 76th International Astronautical Congress in Sydney

Azerbaijan's National Science Team is gearing up to attend the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Sydney, Australia, from September 29 to October 3.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the team has actively participated in this prestigious event, AzVision.az reports, citing Azercosmos.

The central theme of this year's congress is "Sustainable Space: Resilient Earth", focusing on the interconnection between space innovations and sustainability. The event will revolve around three key areas: space applications for planet Earth, sustainable space activities, and sustaining life beyond Earth.

The scientific papers presented at the Sydney congress will cover a wide range of topics, including the utilization of space capabilities in finance, industry, agriculture, construction, urban planning, ICT, and other domains. Additionally, the congress will explore space-based solutions for fostering a digital, eco-friendly, and sustainable future.

The information about the Sydney Congress was provided during a certificate award ceremony for the National Science Team and the presentation of a mentorship program as part of the International Astronautical Congress 2025 project. The event, organized by Azercosmos Space Academy with the support of the SABAH group of the Azerbaijan State Agency for Science and Higher Education and the Innovation and Digital Development Agency, aimed to bolster initiatives for the development of space science and the space ecosystem in Azerbaijan.

The ceremony also celebrated the significant achievements made during the previous International Astronautical Congress, held from October 14-18 last year under the motto "Space Responsibility for Sustainability". Out of the 345 papers submitted, 92 were accepted, and 52 members of Azerbaijan's National Science Team traveled to Milan to present their work to an international audience. Azerbaijan ranked among the top five countries with the highest number of scientific papers presented, alongside the United States, Italy, India, and China.

The mentorship program introduced during the ceremony is expected to open up new opportunities for young professionals to exchange knowledge and expertise in the field of space science.
