Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met on Wednesday with Kairat Sarybay, Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
The meeting focused on the priority areas of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of CICA for 2024-2026, as well as the existing activities and future perspectives within the organization.
Acknowledging Azerbaijan’s significant experience in multilateral diplomacy and its successful presidencies, both sides commended the conceptual document submitted by Azerbaijan under its CICA chairmanship. This document covers a wide range of areas aimed at developing the organization and fostering collaboration and trust between member countries.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Kazakhstan, as the author of the idea, played a crucial role in developing the organization. He underscored the importance of increasing CICA’s international role and efficiency, enhancing practical benefits for member countries, and ensuring institutional development during Azerbaijan's chairmanship. He also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation across various domains, including education, climate change, youth, media, transport, and other areas.
Regarding the crucial decisions made during the COP29 Presidency in relation to the global climate agenda, the minister pointed out the potential for CICA projects to address climate change.
Kairat Sarybay, noting the extensive program of his visit to Azerbaijan, expressed optimism that the meetings with relevant institutions would be valuable in terms of obtaining detailed information on topics important to CICA and discussing the priority areas of Azerbaijan's chairmanship.
The meeting also covered other topics of mutual interest.
