Central Bank of Azerbaijan sharply reduced issue of notes in 2024

The Central Bank of Azerbaijan reduced the issuance of notes in 2024 by 6.5 times, AzVision.az informs, citing Report news agency.

In December 2024, the execution of budget expenditures led to a 1.7% increase in the monetary base.

This resulted in a decrease in the average daily 1D AZIR index in January by 1.29 percentage points compared to December, to 6.39%. Activity in the unsecured market continues.

The average daily volume of operations in the unsecured money market in December was 627.3 million manats ($368.9 million), and in the first half of January of the current year - 290 million manats ($170.5 million).

The CBA applies monetary policy instruments taking into account processes in financial markets and changes in the liquidity position of the banking system.

"Considering the impact of changes in government account balances on liquidity in the banking system, the CBA has sharply reduced the volume of sterilization operations since the beginning of the year," the statement notes.
