Azerbaijani grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov returns to FIDE Top 20

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has released its February 2025 world rankings, with Azerbaijani grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov making a strong return to the Top 20, AzVision.az reports.

Mammadyarov climbed one spot to 20th place with a rating of 2731. Meanwhile, Teymur Rajabov retained his 32nd position with 2698 points, while Rauf Mammadov moved up two spots to 71st with a rating of 2656.

Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen continues to dominate the rankings, maintaining his lead with 2833 points.

In the women's rankings, Gunay Mammadzada achieved the best result among Azerbaijani players, rising two spots to 36th with 2412 points. Govhar Beydullayeva advanced one place to 41st with 2404 points, while Ulviyya Fataliyeva held her position at 64th with 2381 points. Khanim Balajayeva, however, dropped one spot to 89th with a rating of 2355.
