Ukrainian president arrives in Türkiye for official talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived late Monday in the Turkish capital Ankara to meet with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the nation's president.

The plane carrying Zelenskyy and his delegation landed at Ankara Esenboga Airport at 9.08 p.m. local time (1808GMT).

Zelenskyy was welcomed by officials at the airport.

The Ukrainian president is scheduled to meet with Erdogan on Tuesday at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.

The visit comes as possible moves towards negotiations or a deal to end the Russia-Ukraine war are making headlines worldwide.

Turkish officials have long offered to help broker a settlement, as the country enjoys good relations with both Moscow and Kyiv.

The war erupted on Feb. 24, 2022, nearly three years ago.
