The administration of US President Donald Trump initiated large-scale job cuts in the United State Agency for International Development (USAID) covering thousands of employees, the USAID said in a statement posted on its website.
"All USAID direct hire personnel, with the exception of designated personnel responsible for mission-critical functions, core leadership and/or specially designated programs, will be placed on administrative leave globally," from February 24, the agency said.
In the meantime, "USAID is beginning to implement a Reduction-in-Force that will affect approximately 1,600 USAID personnel with duty stations in the United States," it noted.
Mass media reported on February 6 that the USAID staff will be downsized from about 10,000-13,000 peope to 294.
