Pashinyan considers changing text of preamble to Armenia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan plans to submit a proposal to the referendum on changing the country's Constitution to replace the reference to the declaration of independence in the preamble of the document, AzVision.az reports, citing the Hraparak newspaper.

Instead, the "Real Armenia" project of his authorship will be used.

According to the publication, Pashinyan is determined to implement this plan even without broad political support for the initiative. It should be noted that in September 2024, Pashinyan announced the possibility of changing the Constitution of Armenia to conclude a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

On February 19, in an address to citizens, Pashinyan announced the need to hold a national referendum to adopt a new Constitution of Armenia. During the address, the prime minister presented the "Real Armenia" ideology project, previously put forward by the Armenian authorities.

Representatives of the authorities announced plans to develop a new text of the Constitution before the 2026 parliamentary elections.
