  PKK declares ceasefire

The PKK terrorist organization has announced a ceasefire, AzVision.az reports, citing Turkish media.

The organization stated that it will comply with the appeal of its imprisoned leader, Abdullah Ocalan.

On February 27, the leadership of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) held talks with Ocalan on Imrali Island. Following these discussions, it was decided to publish Ocalan's appeal.

At a press conference in Istanbul, Ahmet Turk, a representative of the DEM Party, read Ocalan's appeal in Kurdish, while Pervin Buldan read it in Turkish. The written appeal included a call to "put down your weapons."

Abdullah Ocalan has been held in Imrali prison for 26 years. He was detained in Kenya in February 1999 as a result of an operation by the Turkish National Intelligence Organization and brought to Türkiye. Although he was initially sentenced to death, the sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment.
