Every effort should be made to prevent overshadowing election
It is important for the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan in the first place that the Azerbaijani public would be satisfied with the election held, the chairman of the Azerbaijani central election commission Mazahir Panahov said Oct.2.

He made the remarks commenting on the refusal of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to observe election to the Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan.

He went on to add that those who want to observe the election are welcome, and those who don’t - it`s their own business.

It is necessary to make every effort so that no one could cast shadow on the upcoming parliamentary election in Azerbaijan, head of the country’s Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov said Oct.2.

He made the remarks during the seminar titled “Election to Azerbaijani Republic’s Milli Majlis: The Roles and Duties of Media in Pre-election Process” on Oct. 2.

Panahov said CEC has always cooperated with media representatives.

“We have always tried to ensure the participation of not only local, but also foreign media in our events,” he said.

Media outlets play an important role in the election process, he said, adding that media representatives don’t need to be accredited for observing elections.

“Their certificate allows them to participate in this process from the beginning to the end,” said CEC head.

Furthermore, he pointed out that over 1,700 people have appealed to CEC for nominating their candidacies for participation in the parliamentary election.
