US Senate approves bill to extend government funding until September 30

The Senate, the upper chamber of the US Congress, passed a bill to continue funding the federal government through the end of the US fiscal year on September 30, AzVision.az reports, citing TASS.

It was supported by 54 senators and opposed by 46. A simple majority of votes was required for approval. The document will now be sent to US President Donald Trump for his signature. The head of state has already expressed his support for it.

If the document was not approved by 11:59 p.m. on March 14 (3:59 a.m. GMT on March 15), there would be a shutdown: a number of government agencies and programs would be suspended, the payment of salaries to hundreds of thousands of civil servants would be temporarily stopped, and many of them would be sent on unpaid leave.
