Hollywood star Val Kilmer known for Batman, Jim Morrison roles dies at 65

Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, known for his leading roles in Batman Forever and The Doors, died of respiratory failure at the age of 65 on Tuesday, The New York Times reported, citing the star’s daughter, Mercedes Kilmer.

In 2014, Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer and later recovered, the newspaper said, without providing any further details.

Kilmer was born in Los Angeles in 1959. He began as a stage actor, and his big break came in 1984 when he received top billing in the spy comedy Top Secret!. Two years later, he played alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun, and in the 1990s he became one of the highest-paid Hollywood stars. Among other lead roles, he portrayed Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s film The Doors, based on the story about the band of the same name, and in 1995 he starred in Batman Forever.
