Moldova interested in importing gas from Azerbaijan, says minister

Diversifying gas supply sources, including imports from Azerbaijan, is crucial for ensuring Moldova’s energy security, Moldovan Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu said on Friday in Baku during the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council.

The minister noted that natural gas will continue to play a vital role in Moldova's energy system—both for local power generation and for ensuring flexibility and balance within the broader European network, AzVision.az informs, citing Report.

"That is why we view the Vertical Gas Corridor as an essential component of our energy future," he said, adding that expanding supply diversification, including imports from Azerbaijan, will be key to meeting his country's needs.

The minister reaffirmed Moldova's commitment to the Southern Gas Corridor and shared goals of "energy security, sustainability, and regional integration."

According to him, by working together, the countries can overcome upcoming challenges and pave the way for a more secure, sustainable, and prosperous energy future for all.
