Minister Mustafayev said economic ties between Azerbaijan and the US are on rise, noting the cooperation between the two countries in the areas of energy, industry, ICT, education, etc.
Informing the ambassador about Azerbaijan’s economy, the measures taken to prevent the impact of the global economic crisis on the country’s economy and the development conception “Azerbaijan 2020: Vision into the Future”, the minister stressed the importance of the work done for the development of economic diversification and non-oil sector.
Mustafayev went on to add that measures are underway to further develop the business and investment environment in the country. “In this sphere we continue cooperating with the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation,” he said.
Touching upon Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Mustafayev said more than 50 projects, funded by USAID, have been implemented in Azerbaijan.
Mustafayev mentioned to the ambassador Azerbaijan’s just position regarding the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The minister then presented to him the list of US companies operating in occupied Azerbaijani territories, stressing it is inadmissible and the US government is meant to take actions to prevent such cases.
Robert Cekuta introduced Ms. Michaela Meredith, the new head of the USAID representation to Azerbaijan, speaking of bilateral economic relations, investment, and US companies operating in Azerbaijan.
Commenting on prospects for economic cooperation, the US ambassador noted that the US trade mission will make a visit to Azerbaijan in November 2015.
The sides further exchanged views on current economic relations and prospects for expanding cooperation between the two countries, the scheduled US visit of Mustafayev at the invitation of the US trade minister and other issues of mutual interest.
