Solemn reception in Paris marks Azerbaijan’s Independence Day

Azerbaijan’s Embassy in France held an official reception in Paris to celebrate May 28 – Independence Day.

Ambassador Leyla Abdullayeva highlighted the founding of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic 107 years ago, noting its achievements in state-building and democracy despite the turbulent period. She emphasized the historical recognition of Azerbaijan’s independence at the Paris Peace Conference and praised national leader Heydar Aliyev’s reforms that shaped modern Azerbaijan.

Touching on recent developments, Abdullayeva said the restoration of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over all its territory has opened a new chapter of peace and reconstruction in the region. She noted progress in the “Great Return” of displaced persons and stressed the importance of a lasting peace treaty with Armenia, first proposed by Azerbaijan in 2022.

Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Elman Abdullayev spoke on Azerbaijan’s growing role in the organization and the global impact of the Baku Process.

Military attaché Colonel Javid Abdullayev highlighted the Armed Forces' role in restoring independence and their victory under President Ilham Aliyev’s command in the Patriotic War.
