Top Democrat demands Trump reveal crypto dinner guest list

A top Democrat in the US Congress called Thursday on President Donald Trump to release the names of people who attended a private dinner after buying his cryptocurrency, AzVision.az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.

Saying Americans deserve to know who is paying millions to get close to the president, Rep. Jamie Raskin in a letter said: "I write today to demand that you release the names of all the attendees at this dinner and provide information about the source of the money they each used to buy $TRUMP coins, so that we can prevent illegal foreign government emoluments from being pocketed without congressional consent. "

"These 220 buyers…collectively spent hundreds of millions of dollars -- $394 million by one account," said Raskin, noting that "we deserve to know who is paying for access to our president."

Raskin said most of the guests appear to be foreign nationals, and many had never bought the coin before the dinner was announced.

"Publication of this list will also let the American people know…what—beyond virtually worthless memecoins -- they are getting in exchange for all this money," he wrote.

He also raised concerns that some of the funds used may come from illegal sources or foreign governments.

"For each invitee, please provide all information you have collected on the source of funds used to purchase the $TRUMP memecoins," Raskin said, giving a deadline of June 4.

Among the top buyers was Chinese-born crypto investor Justin Sun, who has spent $23 million and had been under investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission before investing in a Trump-related crypto firm.
